Serving Humanity Under God (SHUG) is a faith-rooted nonprofit dedicated to uplifting communities through education, compassion, and direct service. The SHUG Scholarship is our commitment to the next generation of servant-leaders.

Who Can Apply

Eligibility Requirements

Our scholarship is open to students who embody the SHUG values. Review the criteria below before submitting your application.

Enrollment Status
Must be enrolled or accepted at an accredited college, university, or vocational training program for the upcoming academic year.

GPA Requirement
A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. We value potential, character, and growth alongside academic performance.

Community Service
Demonstrated commitment to volunteer or community service. Tell us where you have given your time and why it matters to you.

Essay Submission
A personal essay (500–750 words) detailing your faith journey, academic goals, and how you intend to serve your community.

Letter of Recommendation
One letter from a teacher, pastor, counselor, or community leader who can speak to your character and service.

Residency
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Priority may be given to students from the local community we serve.

Opens — May 1
Applications Open
The application portal opens and we begin accepting submissions. Gather your materials early.
Deadline — September 1
Submission Deadline
All materials including your essay and letter of recommendation must be received by 11:59 PM. No late submissions accepted.
Review — October – December
Review Period
Our selection committee carefully reviews every application against the SHUG values and award criteria. Reviews are conducted October through December.
Award — April
Recipients Announced
Scholarship recipients are notified directly. Award funds are disbursed to the recipient's institution ahead of the upcoming academic year. Applications reopen each May 1.

How It Works

Prepare
Gather your transcripts, personal essay (500–750 words), and one letter of recommendation before the deadline.

Complete
Fill out the application form below with your personal information, academic history, and community service record.

Submit
Send your completed application. All submissions are reviewed by the selection committee and award decisions are announced in April.

Await
The selection committee reviews all applications. The recipient is notified by the award date and funds are disbursed directly.
